MANILA, Philippines — Smart Communications, the countrys largest telecommunications network, will begin operating the countrys first commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology on Saturday, August 25. Forty-nine LTE base stations will be up on the scheduled launch date.
To date, Smarts LTE network is the fastest fourth generation technology available in the country. Several LTE sites located in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and Boracay were already activated prior to the commercial launch. Prior to the announcement by Smart Communications, the company has also been actively inviting bloggers and telco media in a beta test program to test Smarts LTE network in the metro.
Smarts LTE service has the capability of delivering downlink speeds of up to 42 mbps. Downloading of movies and large files that usually take hours will be done in minutes. Streaming of high definition videos on YouTube will have no buffering and playing of online games will be more fun than ever with no lag.
Smart has already started accepting pre-registrations for subscription to their LTE service, under the Bro sub-brand. Smart LTE is currently being offered at P3,500.00 monthly subscription plan.
